The Department of Neurosurgery, University of Athens Medical School is a leading department in epidemiological research on neurological disease such as stroke, epilepsy and traumatic brain injury. Our population-based studies on the incidence, prevalence, outcome and risk factors on the aforementioned disease entities have taken place in collaboration with local medical service providers across the country. Our research contributes significantly to the relatively limited national epidemiological data on various neurological diseases and can help guide future monitoring, prevention and therapeutic strategies.

Additional studies in our Department are based on the analysis of our electronic patient databases. The research aims in identifying the frequency of occurrence and outcome of neurological disease with the overarching goal of improving patient management and neurosurgical treatment.
